The Kights of the Altar is our program for young men who serve the Mass in the Sanctuary. "Altar Boys" as they are commonly known. But rest assured, we do not simply allow them to serve Mass once a week. We take great care in raising these young men in the Faith. To serve Mass is considered a high privilege and duty of all men in the Catholic Community, young or old. The only requirement to serve Mass is that of having recieved First Communion.
This program provides focus on the following:
1. Conduct
2. Cleanliness
3. Attention
4. Vesture"The matters treated under Common Ceremonial Actions are of very great importance. They are the fundamentals of all good serving. Collectively they comprise the chief rules of conduct which Holy Church prescribes for those who minister before the Eucharistic King. Without a knowledge of them no altar boy can edify others by his presence in the sanctuary. What he is here taught will be helpful to him whether he remains a layman or becomes a priest. In the latter event he will have nothing to unlearn in the days of his priestly ministry."
--Dom Matthew Brit, O.S.B. (from "How to Serve In Simple, Solemn, and Pontifical Functions")
All servers learn to serve primarily Low Mass and High Mass formats, as those are the most commonly celebrated. Rehearsals are held on the first Saturday of each month after the 8am Mass, and attendance is mandatory for all servers in the program.
If you are interested in learning to serve the Mass, or have a son you would like to enroll in the program, please download and print the enrollment form below and present it to Father.
